If it wasn’t for eggtooth, my daughter wouldn’t be here…
For years she was pushed under the carpet for therapy by the nhs/camhs. We finally got Eggtooth and after the first session my child who would never speak to a stranger came out and you could instantly see the relief on her face.
Eggtooth really helped my daughter who was self-harming and very depressed…
It’s an amazing service which was the only service that could help her and not have to wait years
I was at breaking point and felt so alone
But the group is amazing and has made me feel so much better about myself and life
As a family we felt at crisis point
We were being turned down everywhere we went as my son didn’t fit their criteria.
Instead of self-harming, she did art!
My daughter was referred to Eggtooth because she was suffering from extreme anxiety which included panic attacks and self harm. She is going through the screening process for Autism, which takes a long time! There is not a lot of support for children like my daughter in the Hastings area – who do not have a diagnosis yet
GP Referrals?
Last Autumn 2024 it became apparent that Eggtooth's funded route for young people aged 7-17 was under threat. The Hastings & St Leonards Primary Care network had been pivotal in ensuring Eggtooth could deliver this vital service for the last 2 years, however they were unable to guarantee future funding which came from the ICB ( NHS Integrated Care Board). This caused a lot of concern not just for us delivering the service but for parents and carers, young people, PCN's GPs and healthcare professionals who had seen first hand the importance of this service.
However, due to a collective and community effort - In March 2025 it was confirmed we would continue for another year. This is fantastic news and are delighted to announce that for 7-17 year olds based in Hastings and St Leonards - should they be struggling with their mental health they can now access a referral via their GP.
We are extremely grateful to our colleagues at the PCN who have fought hard for us to continue delivering this service. We want to thank all of the parents, carers and professionals that contacted us and became very vocal about their dismay at the threat of this potential end and to Helena Dollimore MP for raising her concerns in Parliament in October, last but not least, thank you NHS.
Eggtooth continues to fight for additional funding and opportunities to keep delivering vital services at a time of huge challenge.
Whilst we live in a precarious and uncertain times - Eggtooth plans to remain rooted firmly in local soil..
If you or a young person you know is struggling with their mental health or wants to be involved in creative or social activities - request a referral from your GP or get in touch at info@eggtooth.org.uk.
